The Illinois House advanced legislation facilitating Gov. J.B. Pritizker’s ambitions to build a major quantum computing research campus in the state when it passed a bill offering tax incentives to businesses investing in the technology.
Lawmakers approved H.B. 817 by a vote of 98-14 Wednesday. The proposed law offers a menu of tax credits and exemptions to businesses making significant investments in quantum computing, a rapidly emerging field in which computer hardware and algorithms leverage quantum mechanics to solve complex technical problems that conventional computers can’t address or can’t address quickly.
