New York lawmakers appear poised to leave tax hikes on high-income earners and large corporations out of the state budget, as negotiations continue ahead of a Thursday deadline.
The state Senate and Assembly proposed income and corporate tax hikes in the budget resolutions they approved last month, but Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D) cast doubt Tuesday on those measures being included in a final spending plan. That was originally due April 1, before lawmakers approved an extension last week.
