Indiana Advances Special Session Inflation Relief Tax Bills

A pair of bills that would spend more than $1 billion of Indiana’s budget reserves on tax relief for inflation-strapped Hoosiers received initial passage in the Indiana General Assembly Friday.

The House passed a measure (H.B. 1001) 93-2 that would spend $1.15 billion on $225 income tax rebate checks for Indiana’s roughly 4.3 million taxpayers. Also included is an additional $22.2 million for a number of tax breaks—such as increased adoption credits and sales tax exemptions for children’s diapers—in anticipation of costs rising with the state’s enactment of an abortion ban during this special legislative session.
