Maryland Digital-Ad Case Assigned to New Judge After Recusal (1)

The tech industry’s legal challenge to Maryland’s tax on digital advertising has been assigned to a new federal judge after the judge who initially oversaw the the case abruptly withdrew.

U.S. District Court Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby has taken over the case from Judge Deborah K. Chasanow, according to a docket entry Wednesday. In Chasanow’s recusal notice Tuesday, she pointed to a potential conflict with some of the businesses that could be affected by Maryland’s first-in-the-nation Digital Advertising Gross Revenues Tax.
