Justices Reject Delaware’s Play to Keep MoneyGram Millions (2)

Hundreds of millions in unclaimed MoneyGram funds will go to 30 states after the US Supreme Court rejected Delaware’s claim to the money.

The “official checks” at issue are similar enough to money orders to fall under the 1974 Disposition of Abandoned Money Orders and Traveler’s Checks Act, the court ruled Tuesday. That reading means any unclaimed funds go to the state where the checks were purchased, rather than Delaware, the state where MoneyGram is based.
