Kansas DOR Announces New Sales, Use Tax Rules for Used Motor Vehicles

The Kansas Department of Revenue (DOR) Nov. 21 issued a notice announcing new rules for sales and use tax on used motor vehicle sales transactions under House Bill 2098 that was passed during the 2024 Legislative Session. Effective Jan. 1, 2025, if an individual sells a used motor vehicle and purchases a new or used vehicle of greater value within 120 days before or after the sale, sales or use tax will only be due on the difference between the higher price of the new vehicle and the amount received for the used vehicle sold.
