Kansas Governor Announces Elimination of Sales Tax on Groceries

Jan. 6, 2025, 3:38 PM UTC

The Kansas Governor Jan. 2 announced that the state sales tax on food has been completely eliminated. As of Jan. 1, state residents will no longer pay any state sales tax on groceries, saving the average family of four an estimated $500 per year. This is the final step in the “Axe the Food Tax” legislation signed by Governor Laura Kelly in 2022, which gradually reduced the state sales tax on groceries over three years from 6.5 percent to zero percent.
