Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry’s campaign to amend the tax article of the state constitution faces a new obstacle after three residents filed a lawsuit against an upcoming referendum on the constitutional question.
Two Louisiana teachers and a pastor filed suit in East Baton Rouge District Court objecting to ballot language overhauling Article VII of the constitution. The complaint alleges Landry and the Legislature are using a “misleading” question to steamroll more than 100 pages of constitutional revisions, despite requirements that ballot language be “simple, unbiased, concise, and easily understood.”
