Louisiana Authorizes St. George Insurance Premium Tax

The Louisiana Governor signed a law concerning the City of St. George. The law includes: 1) providing that, beginning on Jan. 1, 2027, the city shall have exclusive authority to levy, collect, administer, and enforce an insurance premium tax on risks located within the corporate limits of the city; 2) defining “Insurance premium tax” to mean a municipal license tax imposed on insurers based upon premiums written on risks located within the taxing jurisdiction; and 3) providing that nothing in the law shall be construed to authorize duplicative taxation and insurers shall be subject to only one local insurance premium ...
