The Louisiana Governor June 10 signed a law creating the Houma Restoration District for property and sales and use tax purposes. The law includes measures: 1) authorizing the district, subject to voter approval, to levy property tax and a sales tax not exceeding 1 percent upon the sales at retail, the use, lease, rental, consumption, storage for use, or consumption of tangible personal property, and on sales of services; 2) clarifying that such sales tax shall be in addition to all other sales taxes authorized by law; 3) excluding the sales tax when calculating the combined rate of sales taxes ...
