Louisiana Lawmakers Offer Parents $5,000 Tax Break for Tutors

Educational coaching services for Louisiana students struggling with virtual classes this year would be tax deductible under legislation heading to the governor’s desk.

The bill (H.B. 20) would offer an income tax break up to $5,000 for parents who hired tutors to oversee or assist a child’s virtual learning. It “gives tax relief to individual folks,” Sen. Jay Luneau (R) said Oct. 19 on the Senate floor. “This is important because of the Covid issues we had.”
