Louisiana voters overwhelmingly rejected Gov. Jeff Landry’s (R) plan to allow parishes more flexibility to adjust their local business inventory taxes—one of five ballot measures defeated Saturday during the state’s primary election.
More than 66% of Louisianans voted against the proposed constitutional Amendment 4, according to official results from the Secretary of State. The amendment would have granted local parishes greater authority to reduce or exempt property taxes paid on business inventory. Landry was a strong proponent of the amendment as a tool for improving local tax competitiveness and reducing burdens on manufacturers and retailers.
