Lowe’s Gets Property Tax Abatement at Massachusetts Tribunal

Lowe’s Home Centers LLC convinced a Massachusetts tribunal that the store it leases in a small community south of Boston was overvalued for tax purposes, according to an opinion released Wednesday.

West Bridgewater’s board of assessors put too much value in the big-box store’s garden center space when it assessed the property at around $17 million for tax years 2015, 2016, and 2018, Commissioner Steven G. Elliott wrote for the unanimous Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board. Instead, the board assigned a fair cash value of $12.9 million for each year, resulting in a total property tax abatement of about $370,000.
