Maine lawmakers advanced a bill to restructure the state’s income tax brackets by raising rates on wealthy earners and lowering them for low- and middle-income residents.
The bill, LD1231, passed the House Thursday and now awaits a final vote in the Senate, which voted 22-12 to move it earlier this week. Gov. Janet Mills (D) hasn’t said whether she supports the bill and a spokesperson didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
