Maine Revenue Services Issues Information on Individual Income Tax Instruction Booklet for Form 1040E

The Maine Revenue Services (MRS) Feb. 1 issued information regarding the original 2022 Form 1040ME instruction booklet for individual income tax purposes. The MRS provides that 1) the original instruction booklet instructed taxpayers to claim “1" personal exemption on Form 1040ME (Maine Individual Income Tax Return) if the filing status is either single or married filing separately; 2) the original instruction booklet erroneously omitted to clarify the instructions for taxpayers that the “1" personal exemption is reduced to “0" if the taxpayer may be claimed as a dependent on another person’s income tax return; 3) as a result of this ...
