Maryland Lawmakers Pass Budget With Tax on Information Services

The Maryland Legislature is sending fiscal 2026 budget legislation to Gov. Wes Moore (D), including a new 3% tax on information services, new taxes on wealthy residents, and higher levies on sports betting and cannabis.

Both the House and the Senate Monday approved the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act (HB352/SB321), which will raise $1.6 billion in new revenue through a combination of new taxes and fees. The House of Delegates approved the measure by a vote of 97-41; the state Senate followed with a 29-18 vote.
