Maryland Comptroller Announces Collection Relief Program for Low-Income Taxpayers

Oct. 14, 2025, 3:07 PM UTC

The Maryland Comptroller announced the Low Income and Fixed Income Taxpayers (LIFT) Collection Relief Program, effective Oct. 1. This program allows the Comptroller to grant collection relief to individuals who owe uncontested individual income tax liabilities but cannot afford to pay, based on their income levels relative to the federal poverty guidelines. The relief can be either long-term or temporary, depending on whether the taxpayer qualifies as a fixed-income or low-income taxpayer. [Md. Comptroller of the Treasury, Technical Bulletin No. 60, 10/01/25]
