Maryland Comptroller Announces Excise Tax Rate Changes on Cigarettes, Other Tobacco Products, Electronic Smoking Devices

The Maryland Comptroller June 1 announced the excise tax rate changes on cigarettes, other tobacco products, and electronic smoking devices. The announcement provides that: 1) effective July 1, the excise tax rates on cigarettes with a pack of 20 will increase to $5 from $3.75 per package; 2) for cigarettes with a pack of more than 20, the tax rate will increase to $0.25 from $0.175 per cigarette in the package; 3) for other tobacco products excluding pipe tobacco and cigars, the tax rate will increase to 60 percent from 53 percent of the wholesale price of the tobacco product; ...
