The Maryland Comptroller March 11 issued a tax alert to address changes concerning the Child Tax Credit and the expansion of the Earned Income Credit (EIC) for individual income tax purposes. On March 5, the Governor signed S.B. 218 to expand the numbers of taxpayers to whom the EIC is available and to provide for a new Maryland Child Tax Credit. The tax alert includes information on: 1) the additional taxpayers eligible to claim Maryland EIC; and 2) the requirements for claiming the Child Tax Credit.
