The Maryland Governor May 16 signed a law authorizing Prince George’s County to impose excise tax in addition to or instead of sales and use tax on telecommunications services to fund the county school system. The law requires the county to impose an excise tax of up to $3.50 per month per telephone line. The law takes effect July 1. [H.B. 398, enacted 05/16/24]
