Maryland’s Moore Wants to End Itemized Deductions to Ease Taxes

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore wants to join nearly a dozen states that have eliminated itemized tax deductions, a move state officials said would alleviate financial uncertainty amid the federal tax rewrite debate in Congress.

The Democratic governor has proposed doubling the state’s current standard deduction—it currently maxes out at $2,700 for single taxpayers and $5,450 for joint filers—as part of his bid to end the ability of filers to itemize deductions from state income tax.
