Massachusetts Lawmakers to Try Again to Legalize Sports Betting

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker will have to try again to convince lawmakers to legalize sports betting. His first attempt to harvest more gambling revenue died when the legislative session closed early Wednesday morning.

The House had agreed in July to legalize sports wagering online and in casinos as part of a larger economic development bill (H. 4887). The state Senate didn’t take it up, and gambling didn’t make the cut in the final version (H. 5250), which was cleared on a 143-4 House vote and 40-0 vote in the Senate.
