Massachusetts Millionaire Tax Brings in $1.8 Billion So Far

Massachusetts has collected about $1.8 billion from its surtax on the state’s highest incomes through the first three-quarters of the fiscal year, according to the Department of Revenue.

The 4% surtax on incomes over $1 million, approved by voters as a constitutional amendment in 2022, was projected to generate at least $1 billion a year. The revenue must be used for education and transportation purposes.
