Michigan Governor Signs Law Amending Liquor Control Code, Allowing Alcohol Sales at University Conference Centers

The Michigan Governor Dec. 24, 2018 signed a law amending the liquor control code, allowing a license to sell alcoholic liquor for consumption on the premises of a conference center operated by a college or university governing board. The amendment includes measures: 1) updating and enlarging the list of approved conference centers; 2) allowing licenses for properties leased to private entities by colleges and universities, such as hotels; and 3) expanding the definition of conference center to include golf course clubhouses and adjacent outdoor service areas.
