Michigan Governor Signs Law Amending Property Tax Assessment Provisions of State Essential Services Assessment Act

The Michigan Governor Dec. 23 signed a law amending property tax assessment provisions under the State Essential Services Assessment Act. The law includes measures: 1) allowing the carry forward of the previous year’s information submitted on the statement for calculation of the assessment to a current year’s statement, beginning in 2024; 2) allowing for the audit of claimed exemptions; 3) authorizing the Department of Treasury to rescind any exemption on personal property for which full payment of an assessment, including any penalty and interest, wasn’t received within 35 days of the audit determination; and 4) requiring the treasury to make ...
