Michigan Treasury Issues Information to Protect Taxpayers From Losing Refunds

March 14, 2019, 8:48 PM UTC

The Michigan Department of Treasury (DOT) March 13 issued information to protect individual income taxpayers from losing refunds. The DOT stated that some taxpayers may receive a letter from the DOT asking for more information to confirm their identity. The letters are a result of the DOT’s efforts to protect taxpayers from cybercriminals, who attempt to file state income tax returns on behalf of unsuspecting taxpayers and steal refunds. The DOT also asked taxpayers to report any incident of identity theft to the DOT. [Mich. Dep’t of Treasury, Treasury Protecting Taxpayers from Losing Refunds, 03/13/19]
