Michigan Treasury Publishes 2022 Income Tax Withholding Guide

The Michigan Department of Treasury Jan. 1 published a guide on withholding requirements for individual income and corporate income tax purposes. The withholding rate is 4.25 percent and the personal exemption amount is $5,000. Every Michigan employer must register for and withhold tax. Nonprofit organizations that are exempt from income tax, such as charitable, religious, and governmental organizations, must withhold tax from compensation paid to their employees. Employers located outside Michigan with employees working in the state must register and withhold tax from all employees working in the state.
