Minnesota Conformity Law Must Wait Until 2019

Chances for a special legislative session to deal with Minnesota’s failure to conform to changes in the federal tax code remain slim, ensuring a complicated and confusing 2018 tax year, political insiders and practitioners told Bloomberg Tax.

Most observers believe the window for conforming the state tax code to new features of the Internal Revenue Code, including the 2017 federal tax act (Pub. L. No. 115-97), closed on May 23 when Gov. Mark Dayton (DFL) vetoed House File 947, a massive tax overhaul and conformity bill.
