Minnesota Targets Cannabis, Data Centers for New Tax Revenue

Minnesota lawmakers are leaning on cannabis users and data centers to increase revenue under an omnibus tax bill headed to the desk of Gov. Tim Walz (D).

Both the House and Senate passed HF9, which includes revenue features of the 2026-27 biennial budget, during a one-day special legislative session Monday. The measure won passage in the House by a vote of 93-39 and squeaked through the Senate later in the day by a vote of 34-33. Walz said he would sign the tax package and the spending bills implementing the state’s $66 billion budget.
