The Mississippi Department of Revenue (DOR) June 17 issued a notice on changes to the sales tax rates and oil and gas contractor’s tax, effective July 1. The notice includes: 1) the 3.5 percent Mississippi contractor’s tax no longer applies to drilling, redrilling, completing, or working over an oil or gas well; and 2) a new 4.5 percent sales tax rates will apply to services performed in connection with geophysical surveying, exploring of oil, gas, and other mineral resources.
