N.Y. Lawmakers Call for Reform, Repeal of Some Tax Incentives

Leading New York Democratic lawmakers said Monday they will push to repeal some tax incentives and reform others after an audit found deficiencies with many of the state’s programs.

State Sen. James Skoufis, chair of the Investigations and Government Operations Committee, said at a press conference that the 359-page report by PFM Group Consulting showed that the “large majority” of spending on tax credits has had a “very poor return on investment for taxpayers.” The independent analysis was funded in the 2022 fiscal budget and “quietly published” in December, he said.
