Nebraska Bill Offers Tax Credit for Stillborn Children

Parents of a stillborn child would be eligible for a $2,000 tax credit in Nebraska under a bill introduced Wednesday by Republican Sen. Joni Albrecht.

The bill, L.B. 597, would allow the credit only if the unborn child had reached the 20th week of gestation, and would have been the dependent of the taxpayer claiming the credit.

  • The credit would be allowed only for the tax year in which the stillbirth occurred.
