New Jersey Amends Payroll Tax Law to Enhance Municipal Administration

The New Jersey Governor signed a law amending payroll tax law, to enhance the administration of municipal employer payroll taxes, allowing municipalities to retain up to 3 percent of collected taxes for administrative costs and establishing procedures for handling out-of-state tax situations. The law includes additional requirements for employers. The law takes effect immediately. [S.B. 4219, enacted 01/20/26]
