New Jersey Tax Division Increases Tax on Cigarettes, Liquid Nicotine

The New Jersey Division of Taxation announced that effective August 1, every pack of cigarettes sold by New Jersey licensees bearing an excise tax stamp, as well as liquid nicotine is subject to additional tax. The new tax rates include $3.00 per pack of 20 cigarettes, $0.30 per fluid milliliter of liquid nicotine, and 30 percent of the listed retail sale price for container e-liquid. Distributors, wholesalers, and retailers must complete inventory reports and submit floor tax returns with payments by October 1, 2025, to account for the tax increase on products in their possession.
