New Jersey Treasury Announces Gas Tax Rate Increase Effective January 2026

The New Jersey Department of Treasury has announced that the state gas tax rate will increase by 4.2 cents per gallon, effective Jan. 1, 2026. This increase is intended to support the state’s Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) program. The gas tax, also known as the highway fuels tax, consists of two separate taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel, the Motor Fuels Tax and the Petroleum Products Gross Receipts Tax (PPGRT).
