New York Amends West Islip Fire Department Law, Includes Fire Insurance Premium Tax Collection Provisions

The New York Governor signed a law concerning the West Islip Exempt Firemen’s Benevolent Association. The law includes providing for the collection of the fire insurance premium tax on foreign and alien insurers imposed by section 9104 of the insurance law on all premiums within the territory protected by the West Islip fire department. The law took effect on Sept. 10, and applies to all taxes due on premiums received on or after Jan. 1, 2026. [S. 7555, enacted 09/10/25]
