There have been discussions at New York’s top executive levels about the possibility that the state’s tax on remote workers could be overturned, with both Connecticut and New Jersey turning up the pressure against their neighbor’s longstanding policy, New York’s top tax official said Wednesday.

Speaking at a legislative budget hearing, Amanda Hiller, the state’s acting tax commissioner and general counsel of the taxation department, acknowledged New York’s rule creates a “financial burden” on the neighboring states, which provide tax credits to residents for income taxes they pay to New York.
