The New York Governor Sept. 15 signed a law authorizing the Brookhaven assessor to accept Ruth AME Zion Church’s application for a real property tax exemption. The law includes measures: 1) authorizing the assessor to accept the application for the 2020 assessment roll for real property taxes, for a parcel owned by the church located in Bellport village in the town of Brookhaven; 2) requiring an accepted application to be reviewed as if it was received on or before the taxable status date established for the roll; 3) authorizing the assessor, upon approval by the county, to make appropriate corrections ...
