N.Y. Lawmakers Strengthen Whistleblower Law to Snare Tax Cheats

The New York Legislature on Wednesday approved a measure that would strengthen an existing state whistleblower law that would penalize wealthy taxpayers and corporations that deliberately don’t file their tax returns.

The companion bills that passed the Senate (S. 4730) and Assembly (A. 2543) would close a loophole that failed to capture millionaires and corporations that escaped detection and enforcement by whistleblowers or the government for knowingly and illegally failing to file tax returns.
