New York Supreme Court Finds Town of Vestal Violated Property Tax Increase Freeze

The New York Supreme Court March 20 found Taxpayers successfully challenged the Town of Vestal’s increased property tax assessments. Taxpayers contended the town was prohibited from changing their assessments unless the Town established an exception under the Real Property Tax Law and the assessments were subject to a freeze following their successful prior challenges to their assessments. The town contended its compliance with a Non-Reappraisal Reassessment (NRR) program was proof of a valid revaluation of the property.
