Newsom Asks High Court to Kick Anti-Tax Measure Off ’24 Ballot (Correct)

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and the state Legislature asked the California Supreme Court on Tuesday to remove a measure from the November 2024 statewide ballot that would make enacting state and local tax increases more difficult.

They argue in an emergency petition for writ of mandate that the measure, backed by the California Business Roundtable, improperly tries to revise rather than amend the state constitution, which is beyond the power of voters.
