Santa Clara County is asking a court to overturn a tax appeals board decision to nearly cut in half the taxes the San Francisco 49ers football team pays for its Silicon Valley stadium.
The May 20 lawsuit is the latest development in the increasingly unhappy relationship between the county and the NFL team since the 49ers moved south from San Francisco in 2014. The relationship hasn’t made much money for the county, whose voters approved the $1 billion Levi’s Stadium near the Great America amusement park.
