A previous win by tech industry trade association NetChoice blocking California’s first-in-the-nation child internet safety was partially undone Thursday by a federal appeals court.
Judge Milan D. Smith wrote for a three-judge panel for the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit that NetChoice failed to show it would likely win its challenge to the law’s requirement that online platforms estimate the ages of child users based on the information before the panel. NetChoice is fighting age verification laws across the country.
