The New Jersey Division of Taxation is launching a pilot program allowing taxpayers to settle controversies involving the corporate business tax and sales and use tax through mediation.
The program aims “to provide a vehicle for taxpayers to resolve tax controversies quickly and with finality—without incurring costs” they typically face when they go through the usual channels for challenging these disputes, the Division said in an April 15 technical bulletin. Tax protests typically go before the Conference and Appeals Branch, which is run by the Division of Taxation, or the New Jersey Tax Court.
