The North Carolina Department of Revenue (DOR) announced that Mecklenburg County will impose an additional 1 percent county sales and use tax effective July 1, 2026, increasing the combined sales and use tax rate from 7.25 percent to 8.25 percent. Under the revised rate structure, Mecklenburg County’s tax will consist of a 2 percent county rate, a 0.50 percent transit rate, and a new 1 percent additional county rate, combined with the 4.75 percent state sales tax rate.
