North Carolina DOR Announces Motor Fuels Tax Rate Increase in 2023

The North Carolina Department of Revenue (DOR) Nov. 22 announced the motor fuels and alternative fuels tax rate increase for excise tax purposes. The rate will increase to 40.5 cents from 38.5 cents per gallon for the period of Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2023. The DOR calculates the rate by using the motor fuel excise tax rate of the preceding calendar year multiplied by a percentage. The DOR provides information on the calculation of the percentage.
