NY Budget Process Continues as Governor Signs Tenth Extension

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) signed her tenth budget extension Thursday to keep the state government operating as negotiations over the fiscal 2026 spending plan continue a month after the April 1 statutory deadline.

  • Hochul announced earlier this week she reached a deal with state lawmakers on a $254 billion budget that would raise payroll taxes on large employers to help fund the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s capital plan, ban smartphones in public schools, and cut taxes for middle-class filers earning up to $323,000 jointly.
