One-Year Highway Law Extension Added to Stopgap Funding Bill (1)

A stopgap spending measure released Monday by House Democrats would extend surface transportation programs by a year, likely punting longer-term decisions on infrastructure investments to the next Congress.

The law that authorizes federal funding for highways, transit, rail, and safety programs (Public Law 114-94) must be extended to keep funds flowing to state and local transportation agencies.

Lawmakers have not been able to wrap up work on a multiyear reauthorization, including agreeing on a way to cover the cost of transportation programs.
