Pennsylvania Judges Side With Taxing Districts in Interest Fight

A Pittsburgh-area mall won’t get interest on overpaid property taxes after a Pennsylvania appeals court Thursday favored the statute advanced by the taxing authorities over a conflicting provision.

The ruling provides guidance on which statute control in Pennsylvania property tax disputes when two provisions conflict.

South Hills Village Associates LP reached an agreement with several taxing authorities—including the borough of Bethel Park, the Bethel Park school district, and Allegheny County—to reduce the tax assessment of the property for 2020 to 2023 to $45 million from $60 million.
