Rhode Island Governor Declines to Sign ‘Taylor Swift Tax’ Budget

Rhode Island’s $14.3 billion budget with increases in the state’s gas tax, nonresident property tax, and parking fees will go into effect Friday, despite Gov. Dan McKee (D)'s symbolic refusal to sign the measure.

According to state laws, the budget (225-H 5076aa) doesn’t need the governor’s signature to become law—the first time in 15 years that has happened.
